Johns Creek

Johns Creek has a population of about 63,000. It is located in north Fulton County just east of the 400 highway that runs north to south.  The city was incorporated on December 1, 2006 thus making it the 10th largest city in Georgia. It’s name is derived from a waterway that runs through the area.

Mike Bodker, mayor of Johns Creek, led a very strong and successful, community-driven effort to form the city. It now boasts its own courthouse, police force, fire department, government offices, Chamber of Commerce, and soon, our very own Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra!

A major reason Johns Creek is shaping up to be one of the most enviable cities in America is attributed to the business climate here. Fortune 500 companies and many major employers have moved to Johns Creek. It’s a great place to work!

More than 40 years ago, a group of GA Tech grads came up with the idea of attracting business to Atlanta. Many years later in the early 70’s, the vision came to fruition when the alumni pooled their money in a venture to bring technology companies to the north metro Atlanta area, at a time when most people had not heard of Silicon Valley. Thus, began the development of Atlanta Tech Park.

From there, development continued with the creation of Peachtree Corners Business Park and eventually Johns Creek Business Park.  The business and technology park in Johns Creek is masterfully planned, sitting on 1,900 acres in Atlanta’s fastest growing northern corridor.  Since its inception over 20 years ago, the area has evolved into a dynamic, thriving development, which includes mixed-use property offering space options for office, flex, business distribution, retail and medical facilities.

Johns Creek Business Park attracts image-conscious, growth-oriented companies and it is no surprise why this is so.  Careful planning, quality construction and meticulous landscaping - it is highly appealing for some 10,000 employees.  Upon completion, Johns Creek will feature close to 10 million square feet with an anticipated 18,000-20,000 employees.

This commitment to quality and innovation garnered Johns Creek the most prestigious award, the Prix d’Excellence from the FIABCI (the French acronym for International Real Estate Federation) for being the best office and industrial project in the world!

With business moving here, also followed were the opening of excellent schools.  Johns Creek is proud to have been nominated as one of the Top 25 cities in the US in 2007 To Live to Go To School. It is no secret that Johns Creek schools are tops in the state.

Northview High School continues to rank #1 in SAT scores in Fulton County, each year capturing this spot since it opened in 2002.  All North Fulton high schools rank in the Top 10 in the state of Georgia. Also, opening in Fall of 2009, will be the new North Fulton High School at the corner of the 141 (Medlock Bridge Road) and State Bridge Road.

Equally exciting, in February, 2007, the new state-of-the art, Emory Johns Creek Hospital – featuring some of the most advanced medical technologies of its kind – opened its doors. The 110-bed, all private room facility is considered a Center of Excellence by the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons. The hospital offers a plethora of services, including but not limited to, The Birth Place, Cardiology, Oncology, Advanced imaging capabilities, Intensive Care, Emergency, 24-hr Anesthesiology, Gatroenterology, Orthopaedics and more.

The Birth Place is family-centered, offering all private rooms, Labor/Delivery/Recovery suites, Level III Neonatal intensive care, Certified lactation consultants, Childbirth prep classes, and tours of The Birth Place. You may also take the Emory Johns Creek Hospital Virtual Tour to view department by department.

Johns Creek is home to some of the most desireable country clubs in the county, including the prestigious Country Club of the South and St Ives, to name a few.  Housing in Johns Creek offers something for literally everyone from beautifully-designed apartment homes, 3-story townhomes, new single family ranch homes for empty-nesters, affordable single family homes starting in the low 200K’s to magnificient luxury estate homes. Swim and tennis communities are very prevalent in Johns Creek.

One of the most notable features about the city of Johns Creek, is that it doesn’t matter where you live in town, you will always be just a stone’s throw from all manner of conveniences, shopping, restaurants, hotels and easy access to major roads. Many road expansion and improvements were completed in the last year, increasing transportation efficiency. And several other projects are underway to make life here in Johns Creek just that much better!

For the history buff and pleasure-seeker, one of Johns Creek’s treaures is the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center. Turn-of-the century houses, stores, churches and buildings that were to be demolished in different parts of north Fulton County were re-located to the 46-acre site over the last 10 years with the goal of creating a historic village within the Heritage Center. Visitors are invited to enjoy the two miles of walking trails that wind past a scenic creek with rocky shoals, spring seeps, mature trees, wildflowers, native plants, and plenty of animal life.

For Epicureans, Johns Creek boasts a brand new Whole Foods Market – the largest in the southeast. It is located east of the 141 (Medlock Bridge Road), just before the Chattahoochee River. One visit and you will be hooked!

Also, if you are looking for terrific fresh fish and hard-to-find exotic selection of fruits and vegetables, look no further than our brand new Super H Mart. Great prices, too!

And where to burn those unwanted calories? Plenty of fitness options throughout Johns Creek exist, including LA Fitness and the brand new Lifetime Fitness which opened its doors recently off Johns Creek Parkway.

Coming soon…

Recently approved are plans for an upscale outdoor “lifestyle” boutique shopping center called Plaza Royale located at Bell Rd and McGinnis Ferry. This development is patterned off successful shopping centers located in Los Angeles and San Jose, California, reflecting a Mediterranean/ Italian-influenced them to include a courtyard, fountains and balconies where you can read or play chess if you so desire!

Please visit the official Johns Creek Government website – it is just terrific! You can find interactive street maps of the new city, learn about upcoming events, read the press coverage in the archives, and much more. To keep informed, sign up on the website for email updates.
