Alpharetta is located north of Atlanta, an area comprised of gently rolling topography, beautifully-manicured landscaping, lakes, ponds and streams, temperate weather and golf courses galore! Golf can be played almost year-round. Many of the subdivisions are swim/tennis communities where ALTA (Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association) is hugely popular. 

Years ago, Alpharetta was the county seat of the former Milton County. In 1932, Milton County was merged into Fulton County. The city's name is a variation of a fictional Indian girl, Alfarata, in a 19th century song, The Blue Juniata. The name of the city is also believed to have been derived from the first letter of the Greek alphabet.

In year 2000 USA Today coined this technologically-growing town as “Little Silicon Valley.”

 Back in 2000, with the boom of the preceding five years -- a time when Alpharetta went from 500,000 square feet of office space to more than 10 million, Alpharetta jumped from being a bedroom community to being an employment center. Nearly $1.5 billion in new commercial and residential building had taken place in Alpharetta from 1996 – 2000 and it is still growing. This is what makes Alpharetta so appealing…the fact that you can live, work and play all within minutes of each other!

 The key focal point surrounding Alpharetta is Lake Windward, a master-planned community totaling 3,400 acres of lovely wooded land, just east of the 400 highway. It is home to some 2,400 families, and comprises 20+ communities ranging from the high 200Ks into the millions. Windward Business Park is nearby, affording many the luxury of working near home.  The Windward Lake Club features 16 tennis courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool, kiddie pool and slide, as well as a clubhouse. This stunning 195 acre lake has a dock, marina, boat storage and launch and is available to Windward residents for scenic pleasure boating, fishing and enjoying holiday fireworks displays. The Windward Sports Park includes a football, soccer and baseball field. Also located within three of the upper tier gated neighborhoods bordering the golf course include private community swim and tennis facilities

 On the north side of the lake boasts the spectacular private Golf Club of Georgia, featuring two 18-hole courses and named the Best New Private Course in the United States by Golf Digest. Established in 1998, the Club hosts The Georgia Cup, bringing together both the United States Amateur and the British Amateur champions for an 18-hole match in advance of the Masters. As one participant puts it, this challenging yet impeccable course is so pristine it looks like they get out there with a pair of scissors!

 High tech is big here in North Fulton, which also extends into academics. Alpharetta is well known for its technologically-advanced schools, not to mention that all North Fulton High Schools rank in the Top 10 highest SAT scores in the state. No county boast this many top-performing schools in the state, which explains one reason so many choose to make North Fulton their home.

 Also very exciting, Alpharetta boasts the brand new, 12,000 seat, state-of-the-art Verizon Amphitheatre. This long-anticipated venue opened May 10, 2008 with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and followed with four sold out Eagles shows on May 14, 16, 17, & 20.  The Amphitheatre, located at Encore Park, will be home to the Atlanta Symphony, outdoor movie nights, concerts and more!

 Alpharetta is a shopper’s dream. Upscale shopping -- everything that can be had is at your fingertips!  You may either browse the historic district antique shops and boutiques, or shop to your heart’s content at the beautiful and convenient Northpoint Mall complete with an indoor Merry-Go-Round for the children.
